"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory
or defeat, but in the perfection of the characters of its
participants".... Gichin Funakoshi

Who can train?
- Anyone from 4-60 years of age
- You don't have to be fit to start, and Shukokai will very quickly improve
your fitness levels.
- Our adult classes are for both men and women but we also have special
classes for children.
- Karate is excellent for children because apart from all the normal
benefits of good exercise it places emphasis on developing self discipline,
respect for teachers and parents, and the building of self confidence.
What happens in the class?
- The first 10 minutes or so are spent stretching, conditioning and warming up.
- Fighting techniques of Shukokai are then taught which are based on a
traditional style of Karate that originated in Okinawa, Japan. Shukokai uses
self-defence techniques that include locks, kicks, punches and throws.
What do I need to train?
To start with you only need T-shirt and track
suit bottoms. If you enjoy
Shukokai you can then purchase a karate suit, and join Kyo Rei Shukokai
Karate, a member the English governing body.
